At Findern we follow the Twinkl Phonics scheme.

Level 1: Acorns (Nursery)

Level 2, 3 and 4: Ash Class (Reception)

Level 5: Elm Class (Year 1)

Level 6: Fir Class (Year 2)

Phonics Screening

Please find the attached phonics screening guide which will take place at the beginning of June. You can find all the sounds that will be tested on the sound mats at the bottom of this page.

Ways you can help at home

There are several ways you can support your child with their phonics at home. Firstly, continue to read with them everyday. This will instil a love of reading, extend their vocabulary and give them plenty of opportunity to develop their phonics skills. You can also use the website link 'Phonics Play'  to play lots of fun phonics games where your child can familiarise themselves with 'real' and 'nonsense' words and practise blending sounds.

On this page, you can also find lots of resources including games, worksheets and assessment sheets.

We want to encourage children to do their very best however, we do not want children to worry about the phonics check. All of these resources can be accessed at your discretion and should be used as a tool to inspire the children, rather than to create a big workload for both parents and children.
