Badger fact sheet
2 badgers
It's been a while since you all had an update about the footage from our Oak Hill Forest School wildlife camera.
Well, it's been pretty busy up there now that the wildlife has got used to the camera being there. First up ... badgers! Not just one, now but at least 2. A male badger is called a boar, a female is a sow and young ones are known as cubs. Boars and sows are similar in size, although boars are a little thicker in the head and neck.
If needed, a badger can break into quite a speedy 30kmph for a short burst. Surprisingly, they are very good swimmers and can even climb.
Although they live alongside each other, badgers are not very sociable and won't generally look out for one another. In the event of danger, a badger will not warn others but simply run off!
