Oak Hill Forest School - wildlife camera Autumn update

The badgers are getting more confident around the wildlife camera, and we are now seeing more than one. They are busy feeding up ready for the cooler months. Badgers do not hibernate, but they do enter a period of lethargy called torpor during the winter. During torpor, they may sleep for weeks at a time, their body temperature drops to use less energy, and they live of their fat reserves built up during Autumn.

Oak Hill Forest School - wildlife camera

There's an abundance of wildlife at our Forest School sites, so we have been busy collecting footage up at Oak Hill. So far, we have captured a fox, muntjac deer, badger, rabbits, squirrels, roe deer, pheasant, magpie and blackbirds.
We have also been pleasantly surprised by the variety of bird calls picked up on the Merlin bird app. These have included, bullfinch, chiffchaff, goldcrest, redwing, long tailed tit, siskin, yellowhammer, song thrush, blackcap and great spotted woodpecker!
