March - Success at Shobnall!

After several years of 'near misses' our team of year 6 hockey players came out worthy winners of the South Derbyshire Mini-Hockey tournament at Burton Hockey Club. Finishing unbeaten in the group stages, a 2-0 win in our final game saw our 12 players become champions, playing some excellent passing hockey throughout. Not a single goal conceded in over 70 minutes of matches!

Winners!

South Derbyshire Swimming Gala - March -

Great to see our team of year 5 and 6 swimmers finish 3rd place in this competition. Our best place in this competition since before lockdown. Very well done!

March - CHAMPIONS - FA 'Biggest Ever' Football Festival Success at St. George's Park.

Success!

As part of the Football Association’s ‘Biggest Ever’ national football session for girls, we took a team of girls to St George’s Park. With different activities in the morning combined with a chance to meet current Derby County FC women players, the girls had a wonderful opportunity to show off their skills. This was followed in the afternoon with a competition for nearly 20 teams from across the region. Standards were high, expectations were high, and the girls did not disappoint. We finished top place in our group which saw us go through to the final stages. We won the semi-finals against Repton with some excellent clinical passing and lethal shooting. The final was against William Shrewsbury, one of the largest schools in Staffordshire. In a nervous start, we managed to gain the upper hand, but the game finished without a goal for either side. Onto the dreaded penalties – these finished level after the first round of takers but we held our nerves and managed to win. An amazing achievement on a big occasion, with so many girls there on the day – we now have a signed England shirt from the all-time top England Lioness goal scorer, Ellen White MBE, which will be proudly displayed in school for all to admire in the future. Well done girls!

New Age Kurling

Two teams of Year 4 children competed at Etwall Leisure Centre against teams from a range of other local schools. One team managed to qualify for the finals at Greenbank in Swadlincote which was a great achievement considering it was our first time entering in this sport. Many of the team had built up their skills in our Tuesday free 'drop-in' lunchtime club recently. Well done all!

January - Cross Country - Amazing team and individual performances in the South Derbyshire Cross Country competition in Melbourne. Not only did two of our year group teams finish second and one third, we also has several individuals qualify for the County Finals in Chesterfield.

We sent 36 children to the recent Sports Hall athletics competition at Green Bank Leisure Centre as part of our affiliation to the South Derbyshire Active Schools Network. As always, we were incredibly proud of the performances and sporting nature of our athletes during the day, many of them competing against other schools for the first time. Our year 1/2 squad finished 2nd place overall, our year 3/4 squad finished 3rd and our year5/6 squad managed to finish in first place. The year 5/6 squad will now progress to the Derbyshire Sports Athletic Network County Finals in April, due to take place at Alfreton Leisure Centre. This is the first time we have progressed to this stage and the children are very excited!

More than just curriculum PE

We have recently sent a wide variety of play equipment to a village school in Ghana. Clara, a local footballer at Burton Albion Development Squad, took our contribution of equipment that we had helped to raise the money for over to Africa on her recent trip. She helped to arrange a sports day and many other exciting activities and shared her experiences in an assembly. We value forming such links, helping to spread our love of sports around the world!
